Review | fresh baked’s Orange Cookie Dough Speaks Softly but Carries a Really Big Stick | Mankind

To look at a jar of fresh baked flower, it really doesn’t look like much. Their packaging is simple – white lettering on an all-black background. It’s also very clean; their font is all lower-case and neatly arranged in a manner that’s easy to read and pleasing to the eye. In short – it looks… nice.

Despite its humble, unassuming appearance, inside the jar lies some very potent cannabis.

The Strain

Found on Leafly as “Orange Cookies,” they describe Orange Cookie Dough as:

Orange Cookies… is a hybrid that combines Orange Juice with the renowned GSC. A flavor-packed strain, Orange Cookies expresses itself with a strong aroma of sweetcitrus that closely resembles a fresh tangerine. The flavors of Orange Cookies gives way to deep calming body effects that mingle with a euphoric cerebral buzz to leave you happy and relaxed.

Clocking in at 30.2% THC and 36.2% total cannabinoids, Orange Cookie Dough is not to be trifled with. Inexperienced users should tread lightly with this one. Although not on the packaging, I was able to find its terpene content on Leafly as well:

  • Terpinolene for a fruity flavor
  • Myrcene for an herbal tone
  • Caryophyllene for a dash of pepper

I found some differences in opinion as to whether Orange Cookie Dough could be considered indica or sativa dominant. While Leafly classifies it as more “Energizing” than “Calming,” I found a description on Bud Man OC’s site classifying it as a 60/40 indica-dominant hybrid. Either way you look at it, the effects you’ll feel are:

I guess it’s all in how you interpret “indica” or “sativa.”

The High

I may have undersold it a little when I called fresh baked’s Orange Cookie Dough potent – it goes way beyond that. As soon as I opened the jar, I was hit by a strong earthy scent. Just putting some bud in my grinder made my fingers stickier than Clark Griswold cutting down a Christmas tree. It was like I could feel the trichomes bursting in my hand.

OK, maybe I’m making it a little weird.

I’m a preroll smoker, so once I ground some bud, I started packing a cone. Those of you who have done this know there’s a kind of art to it. Pack it too tightly, and you get no draw. Pack it too loosely, and it’s a flaccid mess that won’t stay lit. Orange Cookie Dough is the kind of flower that packs just right. I lit my preroll, took my first hit, and began a beautiful ride.

First of all, I will vouch for the effects. They are very accurate. One thing I particularly noticed was that it heightened my emotional reactions. Something funny made me laugh harder; something sad made me cry deeper, and so on. Keeping this in mind, I used it to my advantage. About six puffs in, I started to feel that cerebral buzz. I found a shady spot in my backyard, put on my Yacht Rock playlist on Spotify, and just chilled the eff out. For a couple hours, I forgot about pandemics, social distancing, and stay-at-home orders, because I was right where I wanted to be. Everything was going to be OK. We’re going to get through this.

The Verdict

Orange Cookie Dough is a very therapeutic strain. It’s great for a pre-workout hit or a lunchtime puff that gets you through the rest of the day. A little definitely goes a long way; unless you want incurable giggles, don’t smoke the whole thing.

I’ll confess I played a little game with myself. Those of you familiar with Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist know it’s a very emotional show. The season finale was airing which featured the death of the title character’s father. I knew it was coming. I knew I would be a wreck. I decided to smoke some Orange Cookie Dough to see just how much it amplified my emotions. I didn’t notice too much of a difference until this scene:

I broke. I bawled like a baby. I’m still tearing up over it. This was one of the most powerful scenes I’ve watched. When it was all over, I felt relieved, unburdened. If you ever feel like you need a good cry, this definitely works.

President Theodore Roosevelt once said, “Speak softly and carry a big stick; you will go far.” Fresh baked definitely does that. While their packaging may speak softly, their products are very loud (pun intended). If you are inexperienced, don’t smoke this alone. OK, we’re social distancing, so you might have to, but if you do, maybe hop on Zoom or FaceTime with a buddy while you do it. An extra set of eyes never hurt.
